I’m thinking of planning a little winter weekend getaway for Myles and I. Just the two of us.
With sleep deprived days heading our way I think it would be a good idea for us to escape the hustle and bustle of our daily lives and just spend some time together.
Most people would probably escape to somewhere warm like Mexico or Florida but we’re not sun worshippers (or I should say Myles isn’t – that’s what you get for marrying a redhead). Truthfully, I’m perfectly happy to get find a snowy lodge somewhere, preferably a place with skiing nearby, and just hibernate for a few days.
Here’s a few things I wouldn’t mind doing on our weekend getaway:
- read more than one chapter in a book uninterrupted in front of a fireplace. - buy a huge stack of magazines and just work my way through them. - go for a long walk amongst snow covered trees maybe on snowshoes. - take some long baths – yes, more than one! - go out for dinner and not worry about getting home to relieve the babysitter. - explore a town I’ve never been to before. - sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with a paper.Luckily, for us there are many places in Eastern Canada and the North Eastern States where this kind of trip is possible. I’d love to hear if you have any suggestions for places to go or things to do?

Wakefield, Tremblant and and St. Sauveur are my favourite Eastern Canadian winter escapes
If you’re really up for a road trip Bic in Quebec is a beautiful place too.
It’s too bad you ruled out Florida. If you had wanted to go to Miami I could have been really helpful! What about a cabin in Vermont? I had friends do that recently who said it was amazing. They didn’t do any outdoor activities, they just pretty much hung out in bed, read newspapers and took many naps
tremblant, but I”m not sure how good their restaurant scene is. The skiing is amazing though, as are the cottages and little paths to explore by foot.
the Bear’s Trail couple’s resort just outside of Algonquin park is where we enjoyed a pre-babymoon–and they deliver breakfast in bed!

I hope you find somewhere lovely. My suggestions are mainly in Dorset and Wiltshire in England and hence not much use. But for another time, you can’t beat a weekend in an attic room at Babington House: http://www.babingtonhouse.co.uk/
I love going to Stowe, VT. There is skiing nearby, and the town is delightful to walk around. Green Mountain Inn? Mighty nice. There is a B and B we have rented (as in the whole place with a bunch of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews)…the 1860 House. Good luck deciding where to go.

sounds perfect! i’d love a snow escape right now – 42 degrees C here today.
I’ve never been, but this place looks really nice:

Tremblant is good and there are top notch restaurants I can recommend – Seb l’Artisan culinaire comes to mind. If you want to explore a bit, head north to Quebec City to Auberge St-Antoine (google it). Quebec (the province) and Montreal are well-known by Foodies. Anthony Jourdain did a special on Mtl for all the great food you’ll find.
Muskoka is stunning in Winter! There are some great accomodations and our little towns have some wonderful little shops…I know a great little gallery in Bracebridge
.
I have the inside scoop up here so if you want to know the places to stay and visit let me know. We also have some of the best fine dining in Ontario…and only a couple hours from home.
Whatever you decide…enjoy!
My husband and I just did the same escape to Hunstville and it was perfection. We stayed at Cedar Grove (http://www.cedargrove.on.ca/) in our own little log cabin with a fireplace. Food was provided and was really good. Plus we went X-country skiing and skating at Arrowhead Provincial park – it was beautiful. I hope you guys have a great weekend!
Hope you find somewhere lovely. None of my recommendations will be super relevant for a long weekend as they are all in South England. However, if you’re over here ever, you can’t beat a weekend in an attic room at http://www.babingtonhouse.co.uk/. So gorgeous and treaty.
Hi, my friends and I just returned from a Weekend trip to New York City. We had mild weather in January. Just perfect. Especially for a walk in Central Park and around the different villages in the city ie Soho, West Village, Chelsea, Upper East Side! Lots of great shopping and restaurants! It was overwhelming and fun! If not, then maybe in Canada, try to visit Quebec City. It is lovely during this winter too.
For a weekend, there’s are always options within a 4-5 hour drive from Toronto. But in all strange honesty, I’d suggest Minnesota. I had such a wonderful time north of Superior this past summer and I’d love to go back in the winter. Not only is it beautiful, but the people are lovely, and I had some amazing meals there…
