This weekend we had a few friends over for an Irish feast of sorts. Originally I had planned to make an Irish Stew but when I saw this recipe for Suzanne Goin’s Corned Beef with Cabbage, Potatoes and Carrots I had to make it. There is nothing fancy about this meal but there is something wonderful about how spectacularly simple it is – nothing extraneous or unneeded. I also made a quick loaf of Brown Soda Bread which I served with salty, sweet Prince Edward Island butter. Of course, we followed it up with Nigella Lawson’s dark, damp Chocolate Guinness Cake with Cream Cheese icing which full disclosure I did not make. It was a lovely way to welcome in what was a gorgeous spring weekend in Toronto.
As you can see, I also started experimenting with Instagram. I find it’s a really easy and quick way to take some interesting photographs. I have to admit that I’m not really that sure how the whole Instagram thing works yet. It seems like sort of a Twitter with images. There are a few people I follow who take some beautiful images with Instagram – namely Pia Jane Bijkerk and Laure Joliet. Have you tried Instagram? What do you think?
