new kilim rug in hallway

You might remember that I told you a few weeks ago that we had a new kilim rug in our hallway due to the old one being moved up to Henry’s room. New is probably not the right word as this carpet has been lying around in our basement for at least a year or so waiting for its rightful home. I actually purchased all three of the kilim rugs in our house (there’s one in Henry’s room , one in the dining room, and now this one in the hallway) at the same time at the St Lawrence Antique Market in Toronto. I paid just over $300 for all of them – an absolute steal – if you ask me.

This rug is a bit more vibrant than the one than use to reside here. However, I’m finding it really brings out the colours in the stained glass transom above our front door. I find myself delighting in its cheerfulness every time I walk down the stairs.

And here is a little before shot to remind you of what the hallway looked like with the other kilim rug.

A welcome change! Wouldn’t you agree?

I love the new rug! Your entrance is one of my favourites in blog-land.

I do spy out of the corner of my eye a painted staircase – do you have any photos of it on your blog? :-) Pretty please?!

Emma, lovely as always. Could you tell me what the colour on your walls is?? I’m obsessively looking for a warm gray and yours looks so different and so lovely in both pictures!

It’s beautiful and adds warmth and history to the entrance, not to mention is probably brilliant at hiding the dirt!

@Life Begins a Thirty – This post probably has the best shot of our painted hallway:

When we moved in it was all brown.

@Nat – The wall colour is Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. I love it! It moves between an off white and a warm grey depending on the time of day.

Hi Emma, wow love the vibrancy, pattern and those tassels on your kilim! That combo of red, turquoise & black is my all time favourite. Looks stunning in your front hall, especially with your black door.

Emma, thank you for the info! I would have never guessed Pewter. And I was just looking at it the other day :)

Nice! very Nice! Love your Kelims and you are right, you got them for a very very good price. Trying to find a nice, colorful, almost 2×3 m for the baby’s room…no luck!

The kilim looks beautiful in its new home, and your entry is stunning! I’ve been on the hunt for a kilim for our entry, but have never had one…how do they hold up? I’ve also been thinking of painting the inside of our front door black. I love the way it looks against the pewter walls and white trim!

It’s gorgeous and would make me very happy too! And what an amazing steal indeed :)

I love your foyer. I think the new rug is an improvement because the brighter colours complement the glass above the door.

Looks great! I also love the baskets under the table. Whenever I get a basket or other container for organizing (mostly the kids’ stuff) my 4-year-olds dump out whatever I put in it and commandeer the thing for some play activity/organizing of their own!

@Marnie – I think Kilims are absolutely perfect for high traffic areas. We’ve had one down in the front hall for almost 3 years now and it looks as good as the day we put it down even after winter boots covered in snow and rain boots have walked all over it. Other than regular vacuuming, the only thing I do to it is shake it out once or twice outside in the summer.

Make sure you get a wool one though and not cotton. The cotton is not as hardy!

    Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
The newer rug really breathes life into your hallway.
Next time I’m at the St. Lawrence market I will have to check out the rug place…if it still exists.
Thank you for sharing your space regularly. I love your home.

I totally agree, the colours on the rub brings out the beautiful colours from the stain glass. I also want to mention how I love the feel the hallway gives, it feels homey almost like thanks giving ahahaha. Th large wooden mirror pulls the room together, where is it from?

It looks great! May I ask what colour the inner door is painted? Love the darkness agains the light walls and trim. And, is it the same colour as what you used on the stairs? Also, what colour is your white trim? Thanks a bunch.

I LOVE the new kilim. Completely freshens/lightens up the look of the front hallway for the summer months. It’s also amazing how much it opens up the space. I’ve gotta get my butt over to the St. Lawrence Market flea market, clearly. ;)

@Sandy – The door is painted Benjamin Moore chalkboard paint in black. The stairs are painted Benjamin Moore Raccoon Fur and the trim is Cloud White.

Do you still love your Hasbeens? Can’t help but notice them there! Thinking about purchasing some for myself…the kilim is to die for too!

  26. Posted May 18, 2012 at 11:24 AM | Permalink

@Rachel – Yes I still love my hasbeens. Even the super high ones are comfortable to wear for long periods. I’m thinking of buying a lower pair to wear this summer as well.

    Hi there,
Your entryway is so welcoming and I especially love the round mirror above the table. It looks like it’s made of wood. Can you let me know where it was purchased? You’ve given me some new decor ideas for my home.
    Thanks.
