winter white moodboard

While I live in a somewhat colourful interior I could happily exist in the purity of all white. White floors, white walls, white furniture, white kitchen, white bathroom - it all works for me. Of course, it would have to be tempered with some warm, rustic wood and lots of texture. december moodboard-1

Something like this would be perfect. It reminds me of a forest walk on a snowy day - quiet, peaceful and enchanting. To see more of this moodboard and how you could translate this look into a kitchen check out my post over on HGTV.

Could you live in a winter white interior?

diy tom dixon like beat lights

In Monday's post on Smock Cafe I mentioned that I would be back with an amazing DIY on how to make your own Tom Dixon like Beat Lights as featured in this new neighbourhood gathering spot. I first came across these lights in designer Sarah Keenleyside's home (we were shooting a new Hello! Neighbor post that I will have for you shortly). When she told me that she had made the lights out of $20 Ikea bowl I couldn't believe my eyes!

The light as seen in Sarah's own home.

In fact, I was so impressed I asked her if I could cover the project for one of my columns over at HGTV. She kindly agreed and the complete set of instructions and materials is listed over there. Honestly, this is an amazingly simple DIY that only requires 4-5 materials and maybe 30 minutes of your time in total. I don't know if Ikea has even seen this yet!

The Tom Dixon like Beat Lights as installed at Smock Cafe with added abacus wooden beads.

At Smock Cafe and Wonder Workshop, Sarah added another new playful touch to these DIY lights - hand painted wooden beads which she strung along the electrical cord for an abacus like effect. Apparently, there is no end to her creativity!

Head over to HGTV for the full DIY! And thanks Sarah for sharing this ingenious project with my readers!

soft moodboard for spring

I'll let you in on a little secret. The moodboard below which I just finished for HGTV actually comes more or less from a palette we (Marion Melbourne) are currently working on for a dream cottage on Georgian Bay. Isn't it gorgeous?

For more details on where these materials are from and how you can apply them to your own home. Head over to the HGTV blog.

Have a happy weekend everyone!
