Do you know Haven Workroom? If you don't, you should! I discovered Cassandra and her beautiful work when she left a comment on Bloesem about our House Tour. I immediately went to her site and her inspiring thoughts about home and the idea of creating a haven really struck a chord with me. Haven Workroom is a multifaceted atelier that serves up everything from pillows and lampshades, to interior styling to upcycled vintage furniture to classes on how to make your own personal quilts. Originally based out of New Zealand, Haven is currently run out of a small shop in London, England where she sells her bespoke quilts and repurposed furniture. The good news for all of us is that she also has an online store.
The philosophy behind Haven is that every home should be a place of refuge and well being. This concept is carried throughout everything Cassandra does infusing her work with purpose and soul.
I'm particularly drawn to her quilts which are made of beautiful reclaimed, repurposed and unified pieces of cloth.
As she says on her website, "every piece is a modern heirloom and every quilt has a story - a history if you like." Haven has six modern quilt designs that you can choose from which are absolutely lovely but she also takes on personal commissions using your own fabric. How amazing! Imagine having all of your own treasured pieces made into a one of kind, bespoke quilt. I can't think of a nicer way to celebrate a wedding or new baby or personal milestone.
If you happen to be fortunate enough to live in London or be visiting you could take one of her quilting classes where she will teach you to make your own contemporary heirloom.
It should also be noted that Cassandra has taken the idea of sanctuary one step further and is working on a project called Breakspears Haven that helps young homeless mothers and their new babies get back on their feet. She truly believes that providing people with a safe, nurturing environment is an essential ingredient in future health and happiness. I couldn't agree more. You can read more about this project and follow its progression through Cassandra's blog.
Finally, I couldn't resist showing this last image that was recently shot for Red Magazine featuring Haven's pillows and quilts. Love it!
