My latest vintage find is this lovely wood box with Toronto City Parks written on the side. I imagine that it was probably used for bedding plants and seedlings for the local parks. I love how simple and utilitarian this box is with its blocky, black letters stenciled on the side. When I look at this roughly hewn handmade box all I can think of is that somebody was employed by the city to make these. There once was a time when even an object as simple as a wood crate was made to order. How many do you think were made? Where have they all gone? I wish the city still used them.
