giveaway - alanna cavanagh

I feel so fortunate to be able to share (and giveaway!) some of Alanna Cavanagh's work with you this week. Having met Alanna a few times I can tell you that inspiration and talent just flows from her fingertips. Alanna is an illustrator, print maker and surface designer whose work has appeared on book covers, advertisements, wall murals, and postage stamps. Her client list includes The New York Times, Real Simple Magazine, Penguin Books, The Four Seasons Hotel, and Target to name a few. And any of you that were at the Interior Design Show in Toronto last year might remember the whimsical booth she designed for Style at Home and Beauti-Tone paints. {As a side note, I'd also like to mention that she has a fabulous blog. If you're at all interested in how a book cover gets designed or what it's like to meet Kate Spade than you should pop over for a visit.}

Because I'm so excited by the silk screen print she is offering up to one of my lucky readers I'm going to jump right in and show it to you.

Isn't it fabulous? It's a series of quotes handwritten by Alanna on food that she created on a trip to Berlin in 2009. She was inspired by all of the delicious meals she was eating and the great wall murals she saw in the city. You can actually see the original sketch Alanna made that night in her hotel room on her blog.

She told me that she loves to inject a bit of humor into all of her work (hence the Woody Allen quote) because she finds in general most of us take ourselves way too seriously. (Guilty, as charged.)

I think the print would be ideal in a kitchen or a dining room. In fact, I was very lucky to be able to try the print out in my own kitchen. Isn't it perfect? When I saw it there I just had to have one for myself (and I will be honest here and tell you that Alanna generously gave me my own print!)

If you'd like to see this work hanging in your own kitchen or dining room just leave a comment on this post telling me what other work of Alanna's you admire. You must leave your comment before Sunday, August 28th at midnight (EST). I should mention that the print will be unframed and is from an open edition of signed, silk screen prints. It generally retails for $125. Alanna has also kindly agreed to send this print anywhere in the world the winner might be so everyone may enter! I will announce the winner next Monday.

On Wednesday, I'm going to show you some of Alanna's other work including images of her prints in homes featured in Canadian House and Home, Chatelaine and Covet Garden.

Now enter away!
