another take on our bedroom

One of the reasons our linen closet is in such a need of an overhaul is because I have a bit of an obsession with textiles. I don’t think I’ve been on a holiday in the past ten years when I haven’t brought home some sort of blanket or throw or rug. Even when I’m not on vacation I’m constantly drawn to beautiful pillows and linens. It’s just my thing!

Of course, it is nice to use all these different textiles when I have a chance. I’m a firm believer in switching up your bed linens a couple of times of year usually with the seasons. Although I didn’t plan it this way, our neutral bedroom is the perfect foil for many different textile schemes. You might remember that last winter I used a Hudson’s Bay Blanket as the focal point of our bedroom.

This winter I decided to pull out a cream wool bedspread I bought in Uruguay on our honeymoon. It has a chunky fringed border that looks lovely draped over a bed. I topped it with a Kantha bedspread that I purchased at a local store here in Toronto.

The jumping off point for this whole darker colour scheme were these amazing Moroccan pillows I found over at Baba Souk. I’ve been looking for pillows like this for awhile now so I was so happy to find a reasonably priced Canadian supplier. I paired them with two Kilim pillows I picked up from The Arthur a couple of years ago, a cream Mongolian Lamb pillow from West Elm and an indigo pillow cover from Haveli Home in Toronto.

That cute little woven tajine basket with the pink and navy diamonds is also from Baba Souk. I haven’t quite decided where to put it yet but there is nothing I like better than storage with a lid!

Now on to that linen closet! It really is in need of an overhaul. I’ll show you what I’m dealing with in the next post.

Do you switch up your bed linens regularly?

I love how you changed the feel of your room so easily. I am inspired to buy myself a good neutral bedspread so I can do the same because I do not switch things up, but I sure wish i did.

i’m so boring with textiles! my bed is always a neutral color, white or coffee, etc. but this is so inspiring. my first foray in to colorful textiles was buying some gorgeous print rugs in malta when i went last year…so maybe i’m expanding :) i love how your bed looks.

Gorgeous Emma! I’m amazed at your eye and ability to mix such an array of colours and patterns to create a fresh new palette. I never dreamed of changing up my linen a couple times a year but this is such a great idea. I can’t afford at the moment to do so, but it’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind. I love the pieces you chose as well- thanks for introducing me to Babe Souk, it’s amazing!

Holy smokes batman! You are workin’ those patterns! I’m definitely diggin’ the global eclectic vibe you’ve got goin on. I can’t say I’m as bold with textiles, but you’ve definitely inspired me to mix it up!

This is my favorite rendition yet. That bedspread from Uruguay is gorgeous. I totally change up my bed linens. Seasonally and when I get sick of them. I also rotate between sheet sets a lot, so that subtly changes the look of my bed every week.

I am so curious about the other side of your room. Great new arrangement and integration of color. I think I spot a clare vivier on your bench!

@ Laura The other side isn’t very interesting! It has a tiny closet on one wall and not much else. You can get an idea of it here:

@ Olivia – It’s a fiddleleaf fig tree that has actually seen better days! Waiting for spring to give it some loving care and hope it rebounds.

beautiful! love the colours, the light, the vibe… i just find the bed too small :) i am used to my super size bed – in my book, this size would be enough for one person (i.e. me:)

@Sara – it is a ficus lyrata or fiddleleaf fig tree.
